I wish we had a neighborhood hardware store--like an ACE franchise right down town--where Fortenberry's used to be.
I wish we had a small, used paperback bookstore with coffee and discussions and maybe . . .wine . . .
I wish Donnie's were closer to the main Clarkston downtown or that someplace served breakfast downtown in Clarkston.
I wish we had a Farmer's Market every third Saturday in the city hall parking lot for neighbors to sell fruits and veggies and baked goods and crafts and maybe flea market items and there was some local music and tents borrowed from the Tourist Board and sometimes tabling for non-profits and activists and maybe someone offering services on the spot (a bike repair guy/a masseuse/hair cuts/demonstration on making jams and jellies/demonstrations on making compost bins etc. We could invite one of those each month. Maybe we could even invite the health department and they could do those hearing/vision screenings that they love to do. Maybe we could invite someone to do demonstrations on gardening in containers or honeybees or other country skills. Maybe someone could demonstrate rain barrels and how to get them going.
I wish we had a small plant nursery with other gardening items in Clarkston--not Pikes, but more like a Seed and Feed.
I wish we had a video rental store--independent not a chain.
I wish we had a bakery shop--maybe with ice cream treats right downtown.

There is nothing wrong in wishing for nice things, even in the face of an economy that's fixin to have about 20 trillion dollars of inflated money dumped upon it.
There is nothing wrong in wishing for nice appointments to your city, even in the face of a city council that is crippled with inaction. Hopefully, that is what this election is supposed to cure. (And I reiterate, from posts past, their inaction is way more due to a bad governmental structure and demoralization, than it is incompetence.)
I wish for a livestock ordinance. I think there is a mandate for it. But even easier Deb, is the wish you just wrote a full paragraph on, and that was for the market in city hall parking lot on the weekends. I carried on in a post about how the city is frittering away opportunities to create a livestock ordinance. I called it a "no brainer". But really, much easier than the livestock ordinance, would have been the market that you just discussed. The only impediment, could possibly have been the liability issue and I believe that could be easily settled.
Anyway, we could see what will happen with a new mayor and a partially new council. But if we get business as usual, then the people will just start to do what they want, oblivious of city government, as the city abdicates its power. Heck we will do that market you were talking about in my yard. We just call it a glorified yard sale. |
